Faculty Research Assistant - Plant Pathology Diagnostician

The Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) invites applications for a full-time (1.00FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the director. The Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) position is responsible for supporting the Plant Pathology program at the Hermiston Agricultural Research & Extension Center (HAREC), located in Hermiston, Oregon. The FRA is responsible for record keeping and assaying of all plant, insect, and soil samples submitted to the plant pathology laboratory for diagnostic services. Manage the plant pathology program's laboratory and provide support to help meet the program's Extension and research needs. The FRA will perform all laboratory and greenhouse procedures and may help with the design and execution of field experiments. Present research results at regional grower and professional meetings and may conduct trainings for the Master Gardener Program. The FRA is responsible for the general operation of the laboratory and will work independently in scheduling and execution of assigned duties with of the principle investigator, as needed. Determine experimental or laboratory procedures. Participate in decision making concerned with experimental designs, sampling strategies, laboratory techniques, and data analysis. Work closely with the program principle investigator (PI), graduate, and undergraduate students, and aid in training of new laboratory members. Analyze data, write reports and manuscripts, and contribute to the development of new research approaches and directions. Day-to-day duties will be conducted in an office, laboratory, greenhouse, and/or field setting. The position is based at Oregon State University's Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center, with fieldwork in the Columbia Basin of Oregon and Washington.
