Extension Urban/Small Farms Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Specialist

New Mexico State University, College of Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences, Department of Extension Plant Sciences announces the opening of an Extension Urban/Small Farms Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Specialist position.  The Urban/Small Farms IPM Specialist will have a tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (75% Extension/25% Research). A Ph.D. is required in Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science or related field, with emphasis on and/or experience in IPM.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of a combined progressive Extension education and Research program in IPM in urban and small-farm production systems, including agricultural/horticultural crops, home gardens, turf, and other landscape areas. Applicants should have a strong background in IPM, including conventional and organic control methods and knowledge of and experience with a wide range of pest challenges in urban settings and practical IPM techniques for small-scale farmers and community and home gardeners.

 

The position is based at the Agricultural Science Center (ASC) in Los Lunas, NM with statewide responsibilities and is housed in the Extension Plant Sciences Department and Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Weed Science Department. The Los Lunas ASC is located 30 miles south of Albuquerque and is approximately 200 miles north of the New Mexico State University main campus in Las Cruces, NM. The Los Lunas ASC offers excellent opportunities for field-based research and collaboration. In addition, the Los Lunas ASC is housed with and shares a unique relationship with the USDA NRCS Plant Materials Center that is responsible for the development of plants used for rangeland improvement, erosion control, wildlife habitat improvement, and stabilization of critical areas.
